Property Description
Modern hotel in a historical environment. BEST WESTERN PREMIER Hotel Katajanokka fulfils the expectations of travellers looking for an exceptional quality. Inside the old brick walls, a fascinating world of contrasts opens up to a modern premier-class hotel built in a historic prison setting. The red brick walls house 106 magnificent and luxurious rooms. Stylish decor and unique atmosphere effectively take your mind away from the busy working day and intensive travelling. The thick walls ensure a good night's sleep and first class conveniences are available to meet even the most demanding requirements. The verdant and spacious Linnanpuisto Park surrounding the hotel provides an ideal opportunity to relax. In the summer guests can sit on the idyllic terrace under the shade of maple trees and listen to the muted city sounds. In this peace and quiet it is easy to forget that downtown Helsinki is just 10 minutes away by tram. By walking the trip takes about 15 minutes. The oldest part of BEST WESTERN PREMIER Hotel Katajanokka dates back to 1837 and the main part to 1888. The building originally served as a county prison and pretrial detention centre. The prison was closed down in 2002. The open central corridor, red brick outer walls and the high wall around the park are protected by the National Board of Antiquities and serve as a reminder of the building's long and colourful history. Following extensive restoration work, a high-quality and modern hotel opened its doors in May 2007. BEST WESTERN PREMIER Hotel Katajanokka is the first Premier hotel in Finland for the World's Biggest Hotel Family, Best Western. The standard meets the needs of customers who are accustomed to the highest quality.
