Tianjin is China's third largest city and lies on the Bohai Sea, 120 kilometers from Beijing. Dating back to the Ming Dynasty, Tianjin offers visitors a diverse array of historic relics and temples, natural scenery, shopping, and exquisite dining with an emphasis on fresh seafood thanks to its coastal location. The Astor Hotel is located in the heart of the city's Financial District, offering guests unparalleled access to the citys business district and historic concession areas. Spend an afternoon wandering the Five Avenue Area, which showcases some of the best international architecture in the country. More than 230 buildings of various architectural styles line the blocks as living witnesses to the social and historical changes of China in the past century. For a true taste of Tianjins old cultural traditions and customs, a visit to the Ancient Culture Street is a must. A giant archway inscribed with the words "an Old Neighborhood of Tianjin" stands at the entrance to the street. Just beyond the archway, a street lined with buildings in the Qing-dynasty architectural style charms with exquisite detail. Here, you can also find shops selling many of Tianjins specialties, including Yang Liu Qing paintings and clay figure Zhang. The small pedestrian shopping area Xiao Bai Lou is only a five-minute walk from the hotel, and is a great place to explore historical buildings and dine at one of the many restuarants.
