Sometimes called the Venice of China, Suzhous history dates back some 2,500 years. The picturesque city is situated along the lower reaches of the Yangtze River in Chinas Jiangsu Province. Conveniently located next to Dushu Lake, Four Points by Sheraton Suzhou forms part of the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP). Retail shops and restaurants are right next door, and the city center is just 7 kilometers away. Plus, were only 17 kilometers from the Suzhou Train Station, which offers high-speed service to Shanghai in less than 30 minutes. Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) is 80 kilometers away. For a glimpse into the citys rich past, visit the ancient Lingering Garden. Deemed one of Chinas most famous gardens, the exquisite classical Chinese style park is also home to many various architectural buildings. The classic Ming-style Humble Administrators Garden is also not to be missed. The large and beautiful park features a pond, water features, pavilions, terraces, chambers, and towers. For a different taste of local culture, visit Hashan Temple, located very close to Lingering Garden. Named after a famous monk and once one of Chinas 10 most celebrated temples, its main structures are the Main Hall, Circular Gallery, Sutra Library, Bell Tower, and a pavilion known as Maple River Tower. Other notable temples include the Twin Pagodas, the North Temple Pagoda, and the Mysterious Taoist Pagoda. More history can be viewed at the Suzhou Silk Museum and at nearby ancient towns. For some exhilarating native entertainment, catch a pingtan, Kun opera, or Suzhou opera performance, deemed the three flowers of Suzhous cultural history. Delight in Suzhous renowned embroidery, recognizable by its goldfish and cat motifs. Other unique local handcrafted items include Suzhou fans, brocade, silk tapestries, writing bushes, Chinese musical instruments, and wood-engraved pictures.
