Situated in southeastern Peru, Cusco was once the political and geographical center of the Inka Empire, which spanned most of South America. Consequently, this ancient city also known as the Imperial City has been connected to the four corners of the Andes by pedestrian roads since the Middle Ages. Presently, avenues, centuries-old passageways, cobblestone side streets, and alleys traverse the city, each leading to the Palacio del Inka. Situated in the center of the city, the hotel is encircled by Inka foundations topped with colonial constructions, museums, storied archeological sites, premier restaurants, and vibrant local markets. Just a short stroll away, the Museo de Art Precolombino and Museo Inka present artifacts that trace Peruvian history from pre-Inka civilizations to Inka culture to the impact of the conquest. History is also on display at the nearby Stone of the 12 Angles a massive stone demonstrating the perfection of Inka architecture and at Saqsayhuaman, one of the largest open-space temples left by the Inkas. Additionally, the citys main square home to the Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is less than a half-mile walk from the hotel, along El Sol Avenue.
