Situated in the Western Ghats of Karnataka, Mangalore is one of the important centers of exporting coffee and cashew nut. It is a hilly city with winding disoriented streets located some 357 km away from the city Bangalore. The name Manjarun is derived from references to this seaside-trading town in ancient Portuguese Literature. The ancient seafarer, historian and Man Of Letters Ibn Batuta referred to this Quaint port city as Manjarun in 1342. Probably derived from the word Manji used in ancient and present day for fishing boats.
