Property Description
Zetland Country House Hotel stands on the edge of Cashel Bay in Connemara, an area of outstanding beauty. In this untamed landscape of mountains, lakes and white sandy beaches, this country house hotel is an oasis of elegance and warm hospitality. Owned and managed by Ruaidhri Prendergast, Zetland House invites you to enjoy gracious living as it used to be in times long gone. The House, built originally as a Sporting Lodge in the early 1800s, derives its name from the Earl of Zetland, Lord Viceroy and a frequent visitor in the last century. Today, the Prendergast family has recreated the charm and elegance of those days combined with all the sophisticated luxury expected by discerning guests. But the natural beauty of Connemara is never far away. From the main reception rooms and bedrooms, you look over gardens rich in flowers, shrubs and trees, sweeping down to Cashel Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. A member of Manor House Hotels. Facilities in rooms include direct dial telephone, Satellite TV, Tea and Coffee making facilities. Also Tennis Court, Garden, Walking, Billiard Room. In Area Fishing, Horse riding, Heritage Tours, Aran Islands, National Park and much more AA 4 Star Good Hotel Guide recommended A member of Manor House Hotels of Ireland Proprietor: Ruaidhri Prendergast

  • What to do at Zetland Country House? ARAN ISLAND VISITS: Many of our visitors like to visit the famous Aran Islands or the less well known but equally beautiful Inis Bofin. There are ferries at regular intervals to both of these islands and dont worry they will bring you home as well. TENNIS: The Hotel has its own hard court, racquets and balls are available at reception. GOLF: The Connemara Golf Club located at Ballyconneely is one of the most challenging links courses in the West. SNOOKER: We have our own full sized table available to residents. The Snooker Room is just off the bar. GAME FISHING: Zetland House has its own Sea Trout Fishery - The Gowla Fishery - with some 20 lakes and 3.5 miles of river in the heart of Connemara. Fly-fishing is permitted only in this area and we can organise local Guides. SEA ANGLING: The Celtic Queen sails from Clifden Bay and is licensed to carry 14 fishermen, beginners are welcome as well as seasoned anglers. CROQUET: You can play Croquet on the Hotels lawn, again all equipment can be provided. GUIDED WALKS: At Connemara National Park guided walks are organised on a daily basis and are very interesting. CYCLE HIRE: We can organise bicycle hire for you and bikes can be picked up at the Hotel if requested. PITCH & PUTT: The local pitch and putt course at Glendalough is a nice way to pass an afternoon for the not so serious golfer. SCUBA DIVING: Whether a beginner or a qualified diver Scuba Dive West is delighted to take you under its wing. All equipment is available for rental and the clubs two boats take divers to the many local islands and dive sites. WATER-SKIING: At Clifden Sea Sports water-skiing is just one of the many activities available if you are not afraid of getting wet. TOURS OF CONNEMARA: Local maps are available at reception and one of the Prendergasts will be happy to indicate scenic drives, areas of interest and the best shops or places to have a snack en route. HERITAGE TOURS: Michael Gibbons of Connemara Heritage Tours takes small walking groups through the Connemara countryside with visits to ruined famine villages and other historical sights. HORSE RIDING: The Cleggan Riding Centre is situated a half an hours drive from the Hotel and offers a range of treks around the area, on the beach at Cleggan and out to Omey Island when the tide permits. SHOOTING: The Hotel has shooting rights over 12,000 acres of bog and woodland for Woodcock and Snipe. The season is open from November 15th until January 31st. Duck shooting is available for parties of 10 from September. *Note: Gowla Fishery is currently closed however we can organise Salmon, Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout fishing locally. With a little bit of notice we can usually arrange any activity you might be interested in
